Questions people ask me: Should those paying tithe eat from it?

My response – Let us examine this bible page carefully;

In Deut. 14: 22 – 26 it’s written, ” Set aside a tithe – a tenth of all that your field produces each year. And you shall eat before the Lord your God, in the place where He has chosen to be be worshipped, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.
But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the Lord your God has blessed you, then you shall sell them, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses.
And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or strong drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.”

Deut. 14: 22 – 26says ” My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee.”

is tithing a law or choice merriment?

When Jacob offered to give Jehovah a tenth of all he gave him, it wasn’t a law, it was free willed. He was happy and decided to give to God a tenth. You remember how Jehovah almost gave Jacob all laban’s livestock/wealth through Jacob’s trick (I’m using the word trick loosely here). Gen 28: 29 to 31. If you were the one God gave such wealth, you might even give him more than 10%.

Note this, we all pray and sometimes make promises to God: if you answer this my prayer, I’ll give you this or for doing this unexpected favour, I’ll give you this my God. So, that was just the case with Gen. 28:22.

The law of tithe was given just to feed the levites who were not given a single plot of land in Israel, so they have nothing to feed on. Numbers 18: 21- 24. They have no particular place called the tribe or land of the levites, rather, they were scattered about among the other eleven tribe to work in the temples and get paid with tithe.

The reason why Lord Jehovah refused to give the levites a parcel of land and rather scattered them among the other tribes was because of the curse their father Jacob placed on them. Gen. 49: 5

The scripture is there for all to read. Be wise!

The truth is, the law of tithe has been abolished and superceded by Christ (grace, truth and love; the finished work).
